ten things twelve

1) we are standing up to our quivering thighs in river water, holding tiny fish in our bare hands.  later we will put them in a bowl and wash our hands without soap.

I grant indeed that fields and flocks have charms,
But when amid such pleasing scenes I trace
The poor laborious natives of the place
...Then shall I dare these real ills to hide
In tinsel trappings of poetic pride?

8)  shaquille took me on a tour of his bangalore, which consists mostly of fast food restaurants, pool halls, and hip hop shops where you can buy blings and cheap cds.  Do you like blings?  How many blings do you own?  Who is the fastest rapper?  Why do people on the east hate people on the west? i taught him how to eat french fries with ice cream, he taught me how to dip them in ketchup.  he told me macabre stories about children falling to their deaths and busting their skulls and drowning.  If you like hip hop, why aren’t you wearing hip hop clothes?  he asked if i was christian or catholic - he was wondering if the pope was the same as muhammad.   someday he will email akon and ask if he can be a rapper like him.  he still remembers his first hip hop song - Changes, by 2Pac, which he heard when he was in the second standard and it changed his damn life, you know?

2Pac lives.

9)  a carpet of old american magazines lies open to their most juicy ads on the sidewalk.  chanel this, dior that.  scarlett and nicole pout.  (english) articles may exist on other pages, but clearly this is what sells.  i can’t tell if this collage of images consists of vogues or redbooks or cosmos, but it does strike me as the most honest way to sell a magazine.
