Long live Sport!

With the aid of mistranslation, misunderstanding, luck, and a carefully crafted CV, I managed to secure for myself the position of Official Photographer for the Turkish National Diving Championships (who knew being photo editor for the Springdale High School yearbook would carry such clout in Turkeyland?).  As such, I was given complete access to all twelve competitors and permitted to freely roam the semi-professional public pool, snack room, and parking lot with a camera in my hand and this mission in my heart: to capture for posterity the joy, the anguish, the grace - the essence - of one of turkey's least popular sports.

Sure, diving is glamorous. Everyone knows this.  But might there be a soul somewhere inside those florescent colored speedos, a human being hidden behind the veil of chlorine?  If there was, I was going to find it.

I was there in the heat of battle, bodies falling into the water left and right, as scorecards were thrust aloft.  Some emerged victorious, baptized winners by the tepid water.  But the five meter platform is a fickle mistress, at times turning even her most devoted followers into swim-capped cuckolds.

What follows is a sample of my work and, I hope, a testament to the enduring spirit of the Diver.  Long live Sport!
